In a recent incident on January 25, 2024, during an Airline flight to Jakarta, Indonesia, both pilots, aged 32 and 18, were found asleep for nearly 28 minutes, resulting in a dangerous situation where the aircraft veered off course. This incident highlights a serious lapse in aviation safety protocols and raises concerns about the well-being of passengers onboard.

The flight, carrying 153 passengers and four crew members, encountered a critical situation when both pilots were observed to be sleeping simultaneously. According to reports, the first officer had received permission from the captain to rest, following which the captain also succumbed to sleep. This left the aircraft flying unassisted for a significant period, posing a potential threat to the safety of everyone on board.

Upon awakening, one of the pilots discovered that the aircraft had deviated from its intended path. However, attempts to communicate with the control tower were futile as a malfunction in the radio system had occurred, rendering them unable to receive any response or assistance.

Fortunately, despite the alarming circumstances, the aircraft managed to maintain its stability, ultimately landing safely in Jakarta. However, this incident underscores the critical importance of ensuring continuous vigilance and adherence to safety procedures among flight crew members to prevent such occurrences in the future. Aviation authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
